If I had 200 dollars, I would save it for my college education. My goal is to finish law school and become a lawyer who helps people in my community, especially those who cannot afford legal help. Others might say that $200 won’t do much but to me, $200 is a seed of hope that can grow into a future full of opportunities for me, as well as for the people I want to help.

I have seen how unfair life can be for people who do not have sufficient money in our country. They find it difficult to meet their basic needs and fight for justice when wronged. There are many people who are accused of crimes they do not commit and yet cannot afford to hire lawyers to defend them. Others spend several months or years in jail while waiting for their cases to be heard. Others people have to accept unfair plea bargain deals, because they cannot afford to take their cases to court. These situations make me want to become a lawyer who fights for justice, fairness, and equality.

With this $200, I will start putting money for costs of going to law school, tuition, books, among other costs. Every peso that I save is helping me to achieve my goal of helping the common people make sense of the convoluted legal system. I want to be a lawyer who fight for people who have been silenced by circumstance, who have been shunned because they are poor, and who have no voice.

I remember seeing a movie about a father who had a mental illness and was accused of a crime he did not commit. He was sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit and she spent years in jail because she could not afford a lawyer. His child never had him. His story makes me see that money and class should not matter when it comes to justice. People should be allowed to speak their minds, everyone should receive equal treatment, and everyone should have someone to fight for them.

This $200 is worth more than just cash. It is a testament to my perseverance and belief that tomorrow will be better than today. It is an initial step at realizing the dream of becoming a lawyer and defending the rights of the poor, ensuring that justice is maintained in the midst of injustice, and working sincerely towards the well-being of my community. I know that the way is going to be tough but the tiniest things might help pave way to success.
