Soumitra Dutta, former dean of Oxford's Said Business School, has built a career that many would find inspiring. Soumitra Dutta graduated second in his class from IIT Delhi‚ where he studied electrical engineering and computer science in 1985․ He received a Master of Science degree in computer science‚ a second Master of Science in business administration‚ and a PhD in computer science from UC Berkeley․ By 1989‚ he was at INSEAD․ He would be there for more than 20 years‚ during which time he was assistant professor‚ and then dean of Technology and E-Learning‚ Executive Education‚ and External Relations․ In 1999, when most people were still learning the internet, Dutta founded the college's eLab‚ a research laboratory for big data analytics․

Despite the complexities, the SC Johnson College of Business opened in 2016 under his leadership, supported by a $150 million naming gift. He also led the creation of a joint MBA program, which is the only dual MBA degree program partly based in mainland China offered by an Ivy League school. Soumitra Dutta co-founded the Global Innovation Index‚ In 2007, Soumitra Dutta co-founded the Global Innovation Index, which ranks the innovation capabilities of about 130 economies. The index is now published by the World Intellectual Property Organization and helps shape national policies. He also co-founded the Network Readiness Index, which measures the digital readiness of over 120 countries across four areas: technology, people, governance, and impact.
